Housham wants a show for the Trinity fans

Gainsborough Trinity ‘let themselves down’ with their league record this season, but Blues boss Steve Housham still wants a grandstand finish.

Speaking to the Standard in the wake of Saturday’s disappointing defeat at Colwyn Bay, a loss that ended his side’s play-off hopes, he called on his players to give the fans something to cheer.

Looking ahead to this weekend’s final league home game of the season against Vauxhall Motors, he said: “It’s our last outing at home in the league on Saturday and we want to put on a show for the fans.”

“They come and pay their money, I think we took 20 or so all the way to Colwyn on Saturday, and I want us to finish on a high for them.”

Housham’s first full season in charge of the Blues has seen them fall just short in their promotion bid, but he highlights their progress in the FA Trophy as one positive to look back on.

“We had a great run, getting to the semi-final of a major competition, so in that respect it was a great season, but we let ourselves down with our league form.”

“It’s not been good enough. We’re in a bit of a rut at the moment with one win in seven, but I want to finish the season on a high.”

“There’s no point in beating ourselves up now.”
