Greendale progress in extra-time thriller

On a heavy pitch, leading scorer Chris Rose broke the deadlock for Greendale before Anstonians levelled on 75 minutes to force the extra 30 minutes.

After a goalless first period, Greendale took control late on as two substitutes netted.

Scott Connell put the visitors in front and Connor Conway added a third on the break as Anstonians pushed for an equaliser.

Winning captain Martin Williams was named Greendale’s man of the match, consolation for needing six stiches to a mouth wound following an accidental clash.

Todwick Villa also went through to the next round with a 3-2 victory against Worksop Magpies.

Daniel Harper hit a brace for the Magpies.

Langold Lakeside went through 7-1 at the expense of Woodsetts Welfare. Thompson struck four goals.

St Josephs reached the last four at the expense of Lokomotiv Millhouse.

The semi-finals draw has thrown up an all-Division One clash with St Josephs, last season’s runners-up, set to look for revenge as they entertain Greendale Oak.

The other tie is an all- Division Two affair with Lakeside entertaining Todwick Villa.

The semi-finals are due to be played in early March.

In Division 1, Worksop Borough beat bottom-of-the-table Shireoaks Inn 14-1.

Booth 4; Thompson and Mullen 3; Glynn 2; and own goals did the damage.

Shireoaks were praised for their commitment.

A league spokesman said: “Credit must go to Shireoaks who showed the true Sunday league spirit throughout the game.

“Their attitude and commitment needs to be applauded as other teams in the league need to use them as an example when things are not going to plan, showing camaraderie and commitment as a team.”

Kilton Rovers failed to capitalise on an opportunity to climb the table as they lost 5-2 at Langold OB.

Despite being reduced to 10 men half-an-hour into the game, Langold took the points.

They were helped by fine goalkeeping, including a penalty save that proved to be a turning point.

In Division Two, Rhodesia FC netted 13 without reply to beat Yates OB.

Carl Jacks scored five and Jordan Moore added four goals.

Langold Lakeside defeated Woodsetts Welfare 7-1.

Thompson 4, Woolford, Lawrence, Gauntley and man-of-the-match Mansbridge were the marksmen.

This week sees a mixture of league action and Benevolent Cup games.
