Gainsborough Trinity youngsters are still going strong after convincing victories

In the U9s League Blyton had a narrow 2-1 victory over Blyth with two goals from J. Wardle, while Ordsall Rangers beat Saxilby 7-3.

In the U8s League Walesby made it three wins out of three with a 12-0 victory over Misterton, and Forrest Rangers had a very close 3-1 win over Gainsborough Trinity, J. Wilson (two) and P. Hudson scoring for Forrest and C. McClean replying for Trinity.

RIGHT from the start Trinity probed down the right through Drummond and Potts and when the home goal was threatened Boswell made a great block with Wrawby’s centre forward clean through.

Eventually the pressure paid off when Scrimshaw drove home after some neat football by Raseborough and debutant Aaron Dixey.

Trinity drove home their advantage either side of half-time, Scrimshaw securing a hat-trick and Aaron stroking home form the corner of the box.

Midway through the second half Wrawby raised their game to bring the score back to 4-3, but with the Blues still creating chances Kai Benson scored with a superb header and Scrimshaw scored a fourth to round off the scoring.

TRINITY created four or five great chances in the first 10 minutes and they did take the lead on 13 minutes when the Bottesford keeper could only parry a shot straight to the feet of Ross Brackenbury who scored from close range.

But Bottesford were soon back on level terms when a tame shot somehow squirmed through the keeper and crept over the line.

An identical goal to Trinity’s first put them back in front, this time Thomas Williams prodding home from close range and he grabbed two more before half-time to complete his hat-trick, Bottesford also adding one to make the half-time score 4-2.

At the start of the second half Bottesford closed the gap even further, scoring in the first couple of minutes after Trinity’s defence failed to clear, but Trinity upped their game and Jack McMenemy scored a hat-trick, his second from a defence-splitting pass from Brackenbury. and Williams scored twice more.

IT took 15 minutes to break the deadlock between these two evenly matched teams, Trinity grabbing the lead through a well-worked move.

B. Preston beat the Misterton keeper before Trinity extended their lead shortly after when a low shot from L. Crossley found the net.

It looked like Trinity were running riot after L. Crossley scored his second to make it 3-0 but Misterton rallied and managed to grab one back after a speculative shot from outside the box beat the Trinity keeper to make it 3-1.

Trinity were unlucky not to add to their tally, E.

Vasallo hitting the post twice, but they did make it four when the ball fell to a Trinity player and a deft lob from inside the box left the Misterton keeper helpless.

Misterton fought back but some fine saves from the Trinity keeper made sure that their three-goal cushion remained intact.

Eventually Misterton did score from a penalty to make it 4-2 but Trinity put the game beyond the visitors’ reach when L. Crossley was brought down in the box and he converted the spot-kick to complete his hat-trick.
