Saturday’s defeat by Nantwich has not made a play-off place impossible for Worksop Town.

That’s the belief of boss Simon Clark, who says everyone at the club is still confident of a top five finish.

Speaking to the Guardian in the wake of a 2-0 loss at Sandy Lane on Saturday, a game dominated by Tigers for 80 minutes, Clark remained upbeat about his side’s promotion credentials.

“We need 26 points from 13 games and that will get us into the play-offs – and it’s not impossible.”

“We’ve done it before in a 13 game period, we can do it again.”

He insists he’s not alone in the positive outlook.

“The players, the chairman, Frecks (assistant manager) and myself all believe we can get back into the play-offs by 27th April”

“It helps if you have all your players fit and you’re as strong as you can be, but we know what we’ve got to do.”

Tigers will travel to rock bottom side Eastwood on Saturday, boosted by the return of prolific striker Leon Mettam.

Clark admitted the frontman, with 13 league goals to his credit already, has left a big hole in the side while sidelined through injury.

“He’s a very big miss for us because he’s a goalscorer and the way we play suits him.”

“He trained fully on Monday and he’ll be fit to play on Saturday.”

The manager is also hoping to bring another striker into the club in the next week.

One player who may not feature is midfielder Cecil Nyoni, who made his debut on Saturday.

The former Sheffield Wednesday man was set for a trial with Mansfield Town Reserves in midweek, and the Stags could snap up his services.

“They’ll make a call on him, and it would be difficult for him to turn down.”

“He gives us energy and lets Stevie Towers go forward and play.”
