Forest Blog: All-East Anglian final on the way?

Despite losing to Ipswich last Saturday, I have an unhealthy interest in the promotion race.

Of course we’d all love to see Derby fall at the final hurdle again, but I’m hoping for an all-East Anglian play-off final.

Both Norwich and Ipswich have beaten Forest recently and the form books suggest that the Canaries are favourites for promotion. However, as Forest fans are well aware, the play-offs are a lottery at best.

The hatred between Norwich and Ipswich is similar to that of Forest and Derby; one club has won a major European trophy, whilst the other - has not!

Having watched the two opponents closely this season, I must admit that Norwich were by far the better of the two sides. Since they ditched Neil Adams, Norwich have gone from strength to strength, which unfortunately included our recent humiliation at Carrow Road.

If I’m brutally honest, it’s far more interesting to see what’s happening to the promotion chasers rather than slow clap our season to its end.

It was a tale of what could have been on Saturday; Daryl Murphy scored an obligatory opener for the tractor boys whilst former Red Luke Chambers led his side out as a proud skipper.

I was praying that Paul Anderson would make it off the bench for Ipswich. Without doubt he is the worst player I’ve ever seen in a Forest shirt. If Ipswich would have stuck him on, we’d have won that game.

Former West Ham starlet Freddie Sears had a hand in both goals after first creating the first for Murphy before slotting home a deflected winner six minutes from time. The magnitude of that strike may prove to be enormous if Ipswich do eventually go up.

Maybe I’m just bitter about our own play-off failures but it would make a great spectacle to see a Derby game at Wembley.

I’m sure neutrals would love to see a Forest v Derby final one day?

With only one game remaining, I’m trying to find entertainment elsewhere.

You don’t have to look far to be honest; the Championship has without doubt been the most entertaining division in world football this season.

Although we won’t feature in the play-offs, it will still make an interesting spectacle, and given our previous track record, the omens were not very good anyway.
