Worksop, Retford & District 2

WORKSOP travelled down the M1 to Nottingham in fine spirits after recent score draws against Barnsley and South Notts.

On a fine morning on a decent surface this was going to be a good test for the District.

After a very good opening ten minutes for the away side their bright and entertaining football was rewarded when Alex Menzhausen converted a neat move with a precession finish.

This put Worksop firmly in charge and looking comfortable.

After a number of missed chances the District were undone and conceded a goal bringing the scores level.

Nottingham started to push forward and took command of the game.

Half-time arrived with the sides level with Nottingham very much in the ascendancy.

A tentative opening to the second half saw the District conceded a number of sloppy goals, a contribution of lapse in concentration and lacklustre defending saw the home side go in front before Jake Mangham equalised.

The home-side then galloped into a commanding lead.

The District did try hard to get back in the game when Owen Gamble forced the home keeper to save from long range and Morgan Ruby saw his header go over the bar from six yards.

A lacklustre performance was very disappointing for the squad and management as this was a game that was within their grasp.

A final score of 5-2 was very disappointing after a very encouraging start.

The squad have a well deserved break for the next couple of weeks before they recommence their divisional fixtures and a County Cup semi-final.
