Disappointment in Dubai for Westwood, but he hopes 2016 will see his focus return to golf

It was a disappointing return to action for Lee Westwood last week, missing the cut at the Dubai Desert Classic.

After a fortnight off, the Worksop golfer was at Emirates Golf Club in Dubai, where he has found form in the past, but he didn’t get off to the best start.

On Thursday he carded two double bogeys in a three over round of 75.

Friday saw him one over on the front nine, but then he picked up four shots in five holes.

However a double bogey at the last put him one over the tournament, and with the cut set at par, he missed out on the weekend’s play.

The 42-year-old, who has another couple of weeks off now, has told ESPN that golf took a back seat in his life last year, due to complications in his personal circumstances.

But he’s hoping that being based in the UK again as life off the course settles down, 2016 will see him return to form on the course.

“I just want to get some consistency back in game and start to enjoy it again and being able to concentrate on what I’m trying to do,” he said.
