Dinnington Town U8s became the first Dinnington team to be invited to represent Yorkshire in the Manchester United U8s Grassroots World Cup.

Nine teams from across the country were invited to enter the round robin tournament held at United’s famous Cliff Training Ground with the teams accumulating most points entering into a play-off final.

Despite some good results and fantastic spirit the team didn’t manage to make it to the final.

But Dinnington have still been invited back to another tournament. scheduled for October.

“It was a great experience for the lads set foot and play in the place that Manchester United legends like Ryan Giggs, David Beckham and Eric Cantona have trained,” said Dinnington U8s manager Richard Keeton.

“As a grassroots football it would not be possible to get involved in days like today without the help and support of local business sponsorship and I would like to thank Prestige Financial Solutions and M. & M. Blinds Ltd for all their help and support over the last couple of years.”

The Cliff Training ground was used by Manchester United until 1999, when it was replaced by the Trafford Training Centre in Carrington.

As of 2018 The Cliff will be the home of Manchester United Ladies, who have entered the Ladies Premier League for the coming season.
