Dinnington beat Worksop in NCEL shock

DINNINGTON Town pulled off a shock victory in their first outing of 2012, beating title hopefuls and local rivals Worksop Parramore by a single goal.

The NCEL First Division clash at Phoenix Park was a scrappy affair in high winds, and chances were few and far between.

An early long ball from Scott Lowe found Karl Colley in space, but his shot was well over.

Gavin Davis tested Luke Hands with a low effort that the keeper saved comfortably, and Tom Nolan went close for the visitors, dragging his shot just wide of the post.

Dinnington hit back through Dachi Khutshishvili, but he was unable to make two chances count, and Mat Smith then sent a fierce drive wide.

The hosts began the second half well, bossing the possesion, and they got a deserved breakthrough on 65 minutes when Smith headed home from Jon Roper’s dangerous corner.

A second goal never came, and the game fizzled out despite a few long shots from Parramore.

The result leaves Dinnington 14th and unbeaten in three outings, while Parramore lie fifth in the Division One table.

Next up for Town is a trip to Pontefract Collieries, while Worksop visit AFC Emley.

Worksop Parramore: Fernandes, Lindley, Lowe, Copley, Brownrigg, Allott, Smith, Thompson, Davis, Milan, Dawson.
