For the first 15 minutes thy attacked brightly with some smooth football, but fell behind when John Higgins collected the ball on the edge of the area and slotted home past home keeper Mark Toyne.

After a stoppage lasting a few minutes for an injury to Frechville’s keeper, Town continued to press but never really tested the opposition’s substitute keeper.

In the second half Town adopted a long ball tactic which was easily dealt with by the away defence.

A series of tactical changes and substitutions produced a disjointed game but Town never really looked like getting the equaliser which would have forced extra-time, and Frechville hung on for a deserved victory.

Ryan Smith had given Selby the lead at Phoenix Park, until Cartledge struck the first of his hat-trick.

And the two penalties from Cartledge secured the points for Town.
