Diagonals pip Travellers 3-2

Woodbeck Diagonals pipped Sutton Travellers 3-2 away frm home, throwing the Division Two title race wide open.

Woodbeck attacked from the off, making good use of the wide players and it wasn’t long before Sam Hutchinson started to pepper crosses in.

The first goal came after a save from Sutton’s goalkeeper who could only parry to the feet of Jason Riley who tapped home.

All that good work was immediately undone though when Sutton replied from the kick-off.

However Diagonals punctured the Sutton defence soon after with Haydon Rush receiving the ball from midfield with his back to goa, turning and striking a low left foot shot that gave the keeper no chance.

Sutton replied once again and capitalised on a mix-up at the back.

In the second half Diagonals maintained a vice-like grip on the game, preserving possession in the majority of departments.

Brad Beresford and Callum Rush worked tirelessly in breaking down attacks and supporting the counter.

Alec McLeod appeared to feature in every defensive header.

Then a succession of attacking corners from Diagonals eventually bared fruit when Alex Rush crashed the ball home from close range.

With games running out and the top three teams still having to play each other the title looks likely to go down to the wire.
