Craig Parry says Stamford 0-0 draw was Worksop Town's best dispay of the season

Manager Craig Parry believes Worksop Town produced was their “best performance of the season” during their goal-less draw at Stamford AFC.

Stamford put Worksop under the cosh at times, however, the Tigers put in a resolute defensive display to keep the Daniels at bay.

Parry was pleased with how his side conducted themselves against a team who will be nearing the summit of the table come the end of the campaign.

“I think it was two good sides that have cancelled each other out,” stated Parry.

“We have done our research on Stamford and they have done their research on us and we just nullified each other.

“The first 20 minutes was end-to-end, but there weren’t really any clear-cut chances in there and I think the nearest opportunity that would have won it would have come from a set-play.

“To come away from Stamford, who will no doubt be up in the mix, with a point from their patch leaves them having to come to us and try to take points from us.

“I am pleased with a point against a good side and I’m pleased with the performance – every player in there played like men.

“They came out there and manned the game and they were professional with their performance.

“We controlled a lot of the game and for me, we have won 6-2, 3-0, 5-1 before, but that is our best performance of the season because we have had to come on a Tuesday night and graft and dig in and we have done very well tonight.

“If you put everything into context, we have only lost one game, which was a game we should have won if we had taken our chances.

“I am happy with our start to the season and we have been so unfortunate with injuries which has affected us, and it took the rhythm out of the side.”

Parry handed a debut to 19-year-old centre-half Owen Betts, who joined the club on a short-term loan from Basford United.

Betts put in an astute display, helping Worksop to just their second clean sheet of the season.

Parry continued: “Owen has come in against two brutes and they’re two centre-forwards who like to get amongst it.

"Both Owen and Charlie [Jemson] have dealt with the danger really well and Owen came in ready for the fight.”
