Clowne kids are no joke in football league

CLOWNE Comets Under 13s have won promotion from the C Division to theB Division of the Sheffield and District Junior Sunday League.

This is the third successive promotion for the youngsters, and coach Lee Bend is delighted with their efforts.

He said: “They have all woredk well and the hard work has paid off.”

“The club has been going for 25 years, getting kids in to football and we are looking for sponsors for next season for the three teams.”

HUNDREDS of junior footballers celebrated the end of the season with the annual Maltby Festival of Football at the weekend.

Teams from all over the region battled it out in age groups ranging from Under 7s to Under 15s at Lillyhall Road.

Host club Maltby Juniors picked up a trophy in the Under 11 section, with the A side victorious.

Dinnington Town’s Under 9s won their section, while Worksop Boys Club were triumphant at Under 12 level.

Other clubs taking home trophies included Hasland Community FC, Wath Stars, Chesterfield Reds, Sheffield FC and Wath St James.
