Clare returns to Cambridge

VETERAN striker Daryl Clare has returned to Cambridge United after Gainsborough decided not to extend his loan deal.

Clare was brought in by former boss Brian Little to help the Blues attack. But the ex-Chester City and Burton forward made just one start during his month at the Northolme. Steve Housham revealed the 33-year-old did not figure in his plans with the club’s current crop of strikers all ahead of him in the pecking order. “It’s been a bit of a disappointing time for Daryl during his month at Gainsborough but I’ve got nothing but praise for the lad.” “During training he was a true professional, he worked hard but unfortunately he didn’t break into what we were trying to do,” he said.

Clare’s only start for Trinity came under Little in the 3-0 defeat at Hinckley United in August.
