Central Midlands League Floodlit Cup round-up

In the Southern section Sherwood Colliery had a predictable win over bottom side Southwell City under the Debdale Park Lights.

Lee Easom netted twice, the other goals coming from Liam Black and Julian Topliss.

It was closer at Keyworth United where Hucknall Town paid their third visit of the season and recorded their third win, though this time the match was decided on penalties.

After goals from Scott Litchfield and an own goal for the home side and Michael Bannister and Niall Thompson for Hucknall, the visitors edged home by four penalties to two.

In the North section, Askern and Brodsworth Welfare also needed extra time to settle their tie.

Askern went two up through Shaun Mundy and Alex Rennie, but Broddy fought back to level the scores at 90 minutes with goals from Josh Bowkett and Brad Heaps. Courtney Peynado and Bradley Sykes put the visitors ahead, Jordan McCabe’s last minute effort for Askern coming too late to save his side.

Another comeback saw Clay Cross Town triumph after their long trek to Appleby Frodingham.

The home side were two up after only six minutes, Mark Anderson and an own goal giving them an early advantage.

Aiden Ordidge pulled one back four minutes from half-time, adding two more after the interval, George Johnson’s 89th minute strike rounding things off for the Millers.

All three of the CML sides came close to upsetting higher league opposition in the third round of the Notts FA Senior Cup.

Ollerton Town came closest in a pulsating match, cruelly going out on penalties to Step 5 Clipstone.

After an even first half, Ollerton conceded two goals in five minutes just before the break but came out fighting in the second period, Kyle Clarkson reducing the deficit on 54 minutes.

As they pushed forward for the equaliser they were caught on the break, but again revived their hopes with Kyle Ludlow and Sam Bailey forcing the game into extra time.

Again the visitors took the lead, but Clarkson’s second meant penalties settled the tie.

While the visitors dispatched all five spot kicks, Ollerton’s second cleared the bar to put an end to a brave challenge.

Linby Colliery also produced an outstanding performance, going out 2-1 after a late goal meant Step 4 side Carlton Town squeezed into round four. A third minute Carlton goal looked ominous for Linby, but they withstood early pressure and equalised on 31 minutes with a Ruban Mitchell penalty. If anything Linby produced the better chances in the second half, but were finally undone in the 82nd minute, keeper Luca Rocco making a good close range stop put powerless to stop the ball dribbling over the line. Hucknall Rolls were the third team to trouble higher league opponents, leading for much of their match at Retford United before falling to a 2-1 defeat.

Jack Allen put Rolls in front on 19 minutes, a lead they held until the 70th minute.

A penalty seven minutes later settled the tie in Retford’s favour.

Collingham made progress in the Notts FA Intermediate Cup at the expense of Radford reserves.

Extra-time saw the match locked at 2-2, goals coming from Ross Wilson and Andrew Richards for Radford and Collingham’s Euan Morris and Carlos Vagaroso.

Again penalties decided the game, Collingham winning 5-3.
