Sheffield United have been paired with Tottenham in the semi-finals of the Capital One Cup.
The draw was made following Spurs’ 4-0 win over Newcastle on a night that Liverpool joined United in the hat, alongside Chelsea, by beating Bournemouth 3-1.
The Blades booked their place in the last four with a deserved 1-0 win over Southampton at Bramall lane on Tuesday night, with Mark McNulty scoring the only goal and will now take on the Saints’ old boss Mauricio Pochettino’s side over two legs.
Nigel Clough’s men will travel to White Hart lane for the first leg on January 19, with the return in Sheffield a week later.
This will be the first time that the sides have met since United were in the top flight and it was the Blades, then managed by Neil Warnock who came out on top.
Back in February 2007 goals from Rob Hulse and Phil Jagielka (penalty) cancelled out Jermaine Jenas’ early opener to seal victory at Bramall Lane.
The sides haven’t faced each other in this competition since 1990 when Paul Stewart and Paul Gascoigne gave Spurs a 2-0 win in the 4th round at Bramall Lane.
