BASSETLAW Boys have reached a national final.
The district’s schools football team became Midland Counties Champions at the Nottingham University Ground last week.
A delighted Bassetlaw Schools Football chairman Jack Tarr sang the praises of the youngsters, and everyone who helped them succeed in the seven-a-side tournament.
He said: “A set of talented boys, an excellent manager, good organisation, brilliant support and a little bit of luck are all needed to reach a national final and Bassetlaw Boys had all of those qualities last week.”
Taking on Northampton, Bromsgrove and Gainsborough in their group matches, Stoke in the semi-final and Northampton again in the final, they were victorious in every game and now travel to Cobham in Surrey – the home of Chelsea’s training ground – for the National Finals in April.
Jack added: “Congratulations go to the boys, manager Alan Pressley for his skilful handling of his squad and thanks to the parents and supporters who have travelled to the many away games this season – and to County Cleaners who have sent the boys out looking very smart each week.”
This week attention turns to the girls of Ryton Park, who will hope to emulate the boys’ glory in the Midland Counties Individual Schools seven-a-side championships.
Should they return from Nottingham with the title, they’ll head to the National Finals at Watford’s training ground.
