East Riding created the first real chance of the game but the Bassetlaw defence held firm and after 15 minutes took the lead when a Luke Smith ball penetrated the Riding defence and left Jay Smith with the sort of chance he rarely misses, a race and a one on one with the opposition keeper.

With the renewed confidence created by the goal Bassetlaw held out comfortably until half-time after which East Riding came out with increased determination.

However with Liam Frost and Jack Wilson on top form and goalkeeper George Atkinson looking secure Bassetlaw had a period of being first to the ball until eventually Ryan Dixon was on hand to sweep home a Jay Smith cross and put them into an apparent comfort zone.

Nevertheless East Riding had other ideas and Bassetlaw manager Alan Pressley, and the faithful travelling parents worked hard to keep their team on their toes.

With just two minutes remaining a wonder strike reduced the arrears but it came too late to break Bassetlaw’s 100 per cent record.
