Boss Craig Parry demands FA Trophy reaction as Worksop Town beaten by Sutton Coldfield

Craig Parry is looking for a reaction from his side as Worksop Town prepare to face Ramsbottom United in the FA Trophy's second qualifying round at Sandy Lane on Saturday.

Worksop were appalling on Tuesday night as they were beaten 4-2 by a Sutton Coldfield Town side who had just shipped 13 goals in their previous two games.

And now the manager wants his hurting side to prove that result was a one-off.

“I don’t think I have to say anything to them. I think if anyone has any personal pride left in them then they won’t run away from these situations,” said Parry.

“I think my team talk is done for Saturday. I just need to ensure that I pick the right side on the pitch and perform as we should do.

“We will be in on Thursday and we will try and get back to basics and get back to doing what we are good at doing and getting into the FA Trophy Saturday – which is probably a little bit of a breather as well to get away from the league and get a cup competition under our belts.”

Ramsbottom were victorious in their opening four league games.

However, they come into this game after a disappointing 3-1 loss against Clitheroe on Tuesday night.

United defeated Ossett United 2-0 in the previous round to set up the tie at Sandy Lane.

After exiting the FA Cup to National League North side Chester FC on penalties, Parry has stated his desire to get Worksop to that level once again. He would also love his side to be able to test themselves against another side from higher up the non-league ladder in the Trophy.

“We have to get back to that level; that is the level that we strive to be at,” continued Parry.

“Everyone at this club wants us to be at a Conference North level and it is my job to ensure that we get a side out here that represents where we want to go and can deliver that.

“At the minute, and tonight, we have taken a little bit of a blip, however, let’s not forget the start that we have had and let’s not forget about the points that we have racked up on the board.

“Good teams pull together, react and put bad performances correctly by getting on the pitch and play the basics of football and by doing the basics that we preach like pressing and working hard by overloading and scoring goals.”
