Blues have no fear
The club’s New Year’s Day fixture at FC Halifax was called off due to a waterlogged pitch at The Shay, which means Steve Housham’s men have yet to kick a ball in the new calendar year.
But despite not playing, they still managed to leap one place in the Blue Square Bet North table as other results went in their favour.
They were soundly beaten 3-1 in the corresponding fixture at Hyde’s Ewen Fields Ground in September, a result which proved to be Housham’s first defeat since succeeding the sacked Brian Little.
He told the Standard: “I don’t know too much about them (Hyde) but the lads tell me they are a decent side.”
“They’ve stormed away with the league so we will be expecting a tough game but we want to get a result.”
“We were disappointed with the way we lost the last game against Halifax on Boxing Day and we want to put that right.”
The 32-year-old has been an ever present in the Trinity side since joining the club from Blue Square Premier outfit Mansfield Town at the start of December.
And the much-travelled frontman has been impressed with the quality of play after dropping down into the sixth tier of English football.
He added: “It’s obviously taken time to get used to my new team mates but it’s been good and it is a good standard of football here.”
“I had a good time at Mansfield but this was the right move for me at this stage in my career.”
“I’m still living in Lincoln so it was part of the decision (to come here) but it was the ambition of the club as well after speaking to the manager and the chairman.”
“There are some really good players here, a couple I knew before I even came so the play-offs have definitely got to be the main target this year.”
Meanwhile, the club have completed the loan signing of former Port Vale midfielder Levi Reid who has joined on a short-term deal from Telford.
The 28-year-old has previous Blue Square Bet North experience from his time with Stafford Rangers and has made over 50 appearances in the football league.
He is expected to go straight into the squad for the visit of Hyde.
