Blues all Square with Halifax

GAINSBOROUGH Trinity and FC Halifax Town have it all to play for going into Sunday’s Blue Square Bet North play-off semi final second leg.

The Blues drew 2-2 with Halifax on the Northolme last night in front of a bumper crowd of well over 2,000.

But Steve Housham’s men will feel they should be taking a lead to the Shay on Sunday, after going 2-0 up within the first 12 minutes.

Both goals were scored by Paul Connor, and they were almost identical in nature.

Kevin Sandwith fired in free-kicks to the Halifax box, central defender Andrew Boyce headed back across goal and Connor was there to find the net, on six and 12 minutes.

The Shaymen looked short of ideas in the first half, until just before the break when a ball to the back post found Lee Gregory and he nodded home to reduce the defecit.

And Trinity couldn’t hold out as their visitors pressed higher and higher up the field in the second half, Gregory taking advantage of a horrible miss kick from home keeper Jason White to tuck in the equaliser.
