They made it through to the semi-finals of the county seven-a-side championship, where they were beaten by eventual winners Edwalton School of Rushcliffe.

On Saturday Misson, Dunham-on-Trent and Leverton are the next to try for county honours when they compete in the Small Schools Tournament.

On the domestic scene Gringley and Ranby are neck and neck in Division Seven with both teams having an outstanding game against bottom school Gamston as the Christmas break approaches.

Ranby defeated Everton 5-2 and Gringley overcame Haggonfields by 7-1 in their latest outings.

And, following a 3-3 early season draw, the destination of the title could well depend on the return fixture at Ranby in March.

After a 4-2 defeat of Ranskill, Leverton, spearheaded by Adam Capsticks and aided by Rudy Campbell and Thomas Jee are beginning to look favourites to win Division Five and entry into the end of season Champion of Champions tournament.

A much improved Langold earned a draw against Division Two league leaders Sir Edmund Hillary in a 3-3 encounter that saw Oliver Randle (2) and Connor Tweed scoring for Langold and Leon Hulme 2 and Oliver Walker reply for Hillary.

The full invited Bassetlaw squad is: Riley Garfitt, Byron Bates (St. Anne’s); Bradley Fong (Sir Edmund Hillary); Luke Morris, Kian Smith, Logan Bierton, Jack Garsden (Prospect Hill); Corie Cole (Ryton Park); Henry Millership, Billy Stafford (Carr Hill); Bradley Charlesworth ( St. John’s); Nathan Calvert (Priory). Staff: Messrs Pressley, Donnelly, Tarr.
