Bassetlaw Boys return with victory

Bassetlaw Boys returned to action in ideal conditions that defied the weather forecast and produced an excellent performance to defeat a much improved Gainsborough Boys on the Roses Sports Ground.

In the first half the teams looked closely matched with Bassetlaw just having a majority of possession, but Gainsborough going closer to scoring with a long range effort hitting the post and goalkeeper Jack Cox having to be quick off the mark against two or three breakaways.

In spite of one or two players receiving knocks that enforced positional changes, Bassetlaw dominated play after the interval and finally took the lead when Joseph Gregory was on hand to nod the ball home after a Sebastian Menzhausen corner left the opposition in disarray.

The persistence of Cameron Harper and Kieron May then saw them take advantage of precision balls through the middle of the Gainsborough defence and with Will Bircumshaw and Oliver Ashwell outstanding in midfield and Adam Hickey and Sebastian Menzhausen remaining solid in defence Bassetlaw cruised home to a convincing 3-0 victory.
