Retford United have welcomed back a former player, as part of a double signing to strengthen the ranks.

The Badgers were left with just one senior centre forward when Leigh Hutchinson left the club, but the addition of Liam Wilkin and Darren Fell has bolstered their attacking options.

Wilkin was the club’s leading scorer with 10 goals in 11 games when he departed in October.

But on Tuesday night he made a return to the Jones and Co Stadium.

He will hope to add to his 33 goals from 50 appearances in a Retford shirt, when they host Bassetlaw neighbours Worksop Town on Saturday.

Wilkin initially joined the Badgers on loan from Matlock Town in 2012 before joining permanently in the 2013/14 season.

The striker has also twice topped the NCEL scoring charts during his spell at Winterton Rangers.

Also joining the club is another centre forward in the shape of Fell, a product of the Doncaster Rovers Academy who was recommended to the club by former boss Richard Sennett.

Fell has also represented Conference North side Harrogate Town and Northern Premier outfit Goole, but most recently he has played with CML side Thorne Colliery due to work commitments.

Fell has scored 88 times in 129 appearances since joining Thorne.

Retford boss Rich Williams is also targeting the signing of two midfields, two defenders and a goalkeeper, as he attempts to steer the club away from relegation.

Saturday’s 6-0 defeat at Cleethorpes Town has left Badgers second from bottom in the NCEL Premier, three points ahead of bottom side Glasshoughton Welfare, but with two games in hand.
