Badgers back in business

RETFORD United hope to end a three-week hiatus from competitive action when they visit Heanor Town in the NCEL Premier on Saturday.

Waterlogged pitches have kept Badgers out of action since 15th December, when they beat Long Eaton United 3-1 at Cannon Park.

And Saturday’s scheduled fixture is an exciting one with which to begin 2013, as Retford travel to the side directly below them in the league table.

Retford sit 10th, on 37 points, while Heanor are 11th, level on points but with a goal difference just five worse than Badgers.

Heanor are in good form with eight wins in their last 10 outings, and striker Nathan Benger has scored nine times in those fixtures.

For Retford United, they will hope to give a second ‘debut’ to Christmas signing of Karl Slack, who moved to the club from Evo-Stik side Rainworth Miners Welfare.

Slack, right, will be remembered by Badgers fans for his impressive tally of 13 goals in 10 games at the end of last season to help lift the Baris NCEL Premier Division Title.
