Amateur dramatics in Dinnington victory

NCEL DIVISION ONE

Yorkshire Amateur 1

Dinnington Town 3

DINNINGTON snapped a four-game losing streak, securing three vital points at Yorkshire Amateur on Saturday.

Town took to the field with yet another changed side, Marcus Weston returning for the club in goal with a new back four in front of him.

The opening minutes saw the hosts go close with an effort that just cleared the bar.

Cartledge came close for the visitors, heading over the bar after good work down the left from McKenzie.

And the opening goal followed, as a Lepianka cross found Roper unmarked on the edge of the area and he fired into the bottom corner.

The game appeared to be heading for a free-for-all as poor challenges on Wade, Roper and Hoyland all went unpunished, much to the disbelief of the Dinnington Town bench and travelling support.

Inevitably a red card was to follow, however, as the home side went down to 10 men when the last defender hacked down Wade.

With a man advantage, Town pressed and got a second goal, McKenzie cutting in from the left flank to beat the keeper.

For the majority of the second half the game tended to flow end to end but with neither keeper was troubled.

Town had a few chances with both Wade and Roper efforts going wide, and their third goal arrived when Cartledge was brought down in the area, the striker picking himself up and score his 12th of the season.

The home side got a late consolation and then pushed everyone forward but Weston and Town’s defence held firm and saw the game out.

Man of the Match went to Matt Lepianka, whose knee appeared to pop out during the second half, but he refused to come off, popped it back in and carried on to finish a solid performance.

On Saturday Steve Toyne’s men host local rivals Hallam at Phoenix Park.

Dinnington: Weston, Lepianka, Hoyland, Fairweather, Taylor, Roper, Trench, McKenzie, Jefferies, Wade, Cartledge Subs: Mayala, Langley.
