Allanson feels his team deserve more respect

Chris Adams’ goal just before half-time means the Seasiders are four points ahead of Saturday’s opponents, as they keep up the pressure on leaders Tadcaster Albion.

They have now won away games at three teams in the top five in a run which has seen them beaten only once in 18 games.

Allanson was disappointed with a report from Worksop which labelled his team as ‘unimpressive’ and leapt to the defence of his young squad.

He said: “I think people need to sit back and think and put things into context and do a little research before labelling us as ‘unimpressive’.

“Worksop have the best attack in the division, averaging more than three goals a game. They have the best home record, scoring 54 goals, which is a really impressive record.

“But more impressive is Bridlington Town, ‘the surprise package’, have kept a clean sheet, and even more impressive is that in the whole 95 minutes kept Worksop to only three shots on goal.

“They have five or six times larger budget than us, they get four or five-times bigger crowds than us, a lot of their players are on contracts along with the manager and have played a lot higher level than all of our players.”

It was once again a youthful Town side which took full advantage of a red card to Worksop midfield James Cottingham while the game was still goalless. keeper James Hitchcock also saved an early penalty

“On Saturday, our two full backs were 18-year-olds, we had a 20-year-old in midfield and two 21-year-olds and an 18-year-old up front,” added Allanson.

“We also had two 20-year-olds and a 17-year-old on the bench, so when you put all the above into the context, Saturday’s result and performance was massively impressive.

“Our players were absolutely magnificent, the way we set up, the chances we created, 3-0 would have been a fairer result. They showed real guts, desire, passion and determination under severe intimidation on and off the pitch.

“Pete Smurthwaite was a very, very proud chairman on Saturday, as were all the management team, because we saw a squad of players playing their absolute heart and soul out for Bridlington Town Football Club and putting their bodies on the line and working their socks off.”
