A new era for Trinity

PETER Swann has heralded a new era at Gainsborough Trinity.

The chairman, who is hoping to build a new ground in the town, watched as his side lost by a single goal in the play-off final on Sunday.

But he’s confident the match, watched by nearly 4,000 on the Northolme, is a sign of things to come for the Blues.

He said: “They’ve held on Nuneaton, battled well and you could say that is how we were at Halifax so it is swings and roundabouts. Our lads didn’t really get any sort of rhythm in the game and they are going to be absolutely gutted.”

“Houshy will have a bit of a break now and then we will be back planning again for next year.”

“We are back training in four to six weeks ready for the new season and we promise that we are going to have as much fun down here as we did this year.”

“We have proved that Gainsborough can get into the play-offs, can be a force in this division and we are going to be a force next season and I am looking forward to it.”

“The players are going to be deflated and it does hurt.”

“But we have got to transfer that hurt to working on the pitch and we’re going to keep this squad together and move on.”

“Over 3,000 fans coming here that is amazing support and I think what we have done here is hopefully created a new era of football at Trinity where the fans and the players are a big team of their own.”

“Hopefully next season we can make this place a fortress and give them even more to shout about.”
