Fenton plots assault on pool tour after trials

A local pool player may have missed out on a place in the England team, but he’s determined to get a taste of life at the sport’s top table.

Fresh from a weekend in Great Yarmouth where he tried out for the national squad, Bobby Fenton told the Standard he fancies a crack at a five-tournament tour in 2014.

The Notts County Squad player feels he did himself proud at the England trials, but came away a little disappointed with his performances.

“It was a really great weekend, but I didn’t play my best,” he said.

“In my first match I took on Liam White, and England Under 23 player, and he beat me 3-0 after breaking and clearing up the first frame.”

“I won a couple of matches but in my fourth match I played a lad who gave me no chance.”

“If I lost the next one I was out, and at one frame each I had an easyish black, but the white jumped up and the black rattled the jaws of the pocket and that was that.”

Fenton hopes to get another chance at proving himself to England selectors, after a promising start to the county season.

“I have to thank the Notts team for giving me the chance to go and try out this time.”

“I’d like another try at it, and I’ve started well with Notts with three wins and one loss.”

“But I’m also thinking about going on the tour next year, going to five tournaments.”

“I’ll need to get some sponsors to help with the cost of fees, but I’d love to have a crack at it.”

“There’s some good money to be won on the tour.”
