Eagles soar in Division Two while Adders strike again

RYTON Park Eagles went to the top of Division Two with a fine win over previously unbeaten Manton Tigers, despite a fabulous hat-trick from Tigers player Paul Allison.

Steve Beeston added a single win for Tigers but it wasn’t enough in the end as the Eagles ran out 6-4 winners.

Robert Allen and Garry Scott won two each for the Eagles with Richard Robinson chipping in with a single winl.

Allen and Scott teamed up to win the doubles against Allison and Beeston.

DTH Redlands Joggers went level with the Eagles as they beat Zygabites ‘B’ who were making their debut in the Worksop League.

The joggers ran out 7-3 winners with only two players.

Three wins each for both Peter Cowburn and Dennis Learad and the doubles were too much for the Zygabites outfit of Amber Zygadlo, Brian Hall and Harry Barber who at the ripe old age of 83 must be the oldest ever player to grace the Worksop League in its entire history.

DIVISION THREE

CENTRE of Sport lost twice inside six days.

In their first match they failed to trouble the scorer and went down y 10-0 to DTH Redlands Allsorts.

The Centres trio of Declan Wilson, Sarah Thompson and captain Glenn Gillgrass put up a brave fight but Tom McIntosh, Neil Houghton and Lewis Comley proved too strong.

In their second match the Centre faired a little better despite again losing to Ryton Park Cougars.

Thompson, Wilson and Gillgrass all managed a win each against Luke Banton but maximums from Dave Lee and Dave Rix along with the doubles meant that the Cougars ran out 7-3 winners.

Centre For Sport can feel a little unlucky as three of the games they lost all went to 5 sets.

Other Division Three Result: Ryton Park Dragons 0 DTH Redlands Tarr Babies 10.

DIVISION ONE

THE performance of the week must go to Ryton Park Adders captain Andy Lee who not only took a maximum against MBE but also managed to beat veteran Mick Bell for the first time in over 20 years of league table tennis.

Despite at one stage being two games to one down, Lee took the match into a fifth and deciding game which he eventually won 11 points to 5 and cemented his first ever win over Bell.

However, Lees fabulous hat trick was all in vain as his side went down to a 7-3 defeat with Bell, Steve Needham and Dave Marsh all winning two sets each with Marsh and Bell completing a comfortable doubles win over Lee and Carl Stones to secure both points for MBE.

Lees fabulous hat-trick also prevented MBE going to the top of Division One as DTH Redlands Outlaws beat Stanley Street ‘A’ by a score line of 8-2 and therefore going top on sets won.

Maximums from both Aidan Keyworth and Dave Capewell set the Outlaws on their way and from then on in the result never looked in doubt.

Helmuth Osbourne chipped in with a single win, and a win in the doubles completing a fine win.

The two wins for Stanley Street came from Alex Millward and Peter Eyre with Nigel Stent not managing to trouble the scorecard on this occasion.
