Double glory for new Triathlon Club

BASSETLAW Triathlon Club celebrated a pair of victories to close out the season.

Russell Parr and Gemm Scougal delivered the wins, with results that bode well for 2013 for the fledgling club.

At the Rother Valley Triathlon Festival, Scougal beat a field of 120 to win the Cancer Research UK Womens only triathlon.

The club secretary completed the 200m open water swim, 10km bike ride and 4km run in a time of 44.04.

Also competing at the Festival, Amanda Chambers came 81st with a time of 1.02.07.

A trio of club members entered the sprint distance triathlon, Gavin Hodgson finishing a very credible 49th in 1.17.01.

Eddie Knight came home in 1.25.39, and Helen Crossley in 1.37.26. Amy Ogden who entered the Speedo 1500m open water swim, finished 40th with a time of 23.59.

In the Buttermere Water 10km swimming race, Parr beat all age categories to take first place.

Despite competing in the male veteran (over 40) category he beat the nearest under 40 swimmer by over two minutes, being crowned overall winner in 2.29.35.

His blistering pace over the first half of the race set a split time of 1.07.30 that would have gained third place in the 5km race. Another club member, Jo Summers, ran the Great North Run and finished in 1.56.00.
