Dinnington RUFC II beaten after wasting possession against Hull and York Medics RUFC

Dinnington made a blistering start to the game quickly recycling the ball in their forwards to keep Medics on the back foot.

Six minutes into the game, having come close moments earlier, Dinnington took the lead when Jordan Blakemore squeezed over from close range.

The lead was almost given away immediately, but James Marsden recovered his position quickly to get to the ball first after a kick through by the visitors.

This led to the start of another attack by Dinnington as they broke out of their own twenty-two.

Just short of the half way line Steve Leitch kicked ahead and then regathered the ball after the bounce had defeated Medics defence before forcing his way to the line.

A somewhat shell-shocked Medics team then began to get a grip on the game and withstand the home forwards.

As a result errors by the home side gave away the initiative and Medics were starting to look more dangerous as they were able to bring their quick backs into play.

Fifteen minutes into the game Medics reduced the deficit with a penalty and five minutes later a loose pass by the home side allowed Medics to run the ball back, through some poor tackling, to score in the corner.

Dinnington came straight back but when they missed a kick for touch from a penalty which would have put them on the visitor’s line, and Medics made them pay for the error.

The visitors made ground and then took the lead when they chased down a kick through to claim a converted try. Five minutes later they went further ahead with a penalty kick.

In the last ten minutes of the half, Dinnington came back strongly but errors saw chances wasted leaving Medics 18-10 ahead at the break.

Dinnington had the chance to cut the deficit in the first minute of the second half but opted not to kick for goal, taking the scrum instead. The chance went and Medics were able to clear.

Dinnington continued to press but seemed to lack ideas on how to break a stubborn defence and resorted to kicking their possession away.

This allowed Medics to easily clear their lines. Fifteen minutes into the half Medics had a chance to extend their lead but a penalty attempt came back off the post. Dinnington continued to make errors on attack as there were too many runs into trouble by individuals.

The closest Dinnington came to scoring was ten minutes from time when a cross-field kick was collected by Awly Trueman, close to the touch line, with one defender to beat but his momentum meant he was unable to stay in-field.
