Dinnington rod wins Keith Fretwell match

THE Keith Fretwell memorial match, on 29th August each year in memory of one of the area’s angling characters, was won by Dinnington rod Jeff Clarke.

A total of 66 anglers lined the banks of the Holme Marsh section of the River Trent in blustery conditions with a high but clear river.

This did not deter Clarke from putting a winning net of bream together weighing 64lb 11oz from favoured peg 6, using the groundbait feeder.

Langold’s Stuart Goulding was second on next peg 5 with 48lb 3oz, also favouring the feeder method.

Worksop DAA donated all the pegging fees to the Holme Church Trust Fund with a special thank you going to Keith’s son Steve for his efforts in organising the event.

The annual Worksop DAA delegates and bookholders match on Sandhill lake on Saturday had the usual jovial banter taking place between anglers.

Barlborough’s Gerald Yates claimed victory on peg 58 with a bag of 12lb 5oz, clear of Mark Pressley in second on peg 52 weighing 9lb 10oz and Steve Armistead made up the frame with 5lb 15oz off peg 74.

WORKSOP Piscatorials held their latest event at Clear Water fishery near Mattersey, where Ivor Jones won with 24lb 7oz.

J. Woodhead netted 21lb 8oz and A. Nield with 20lb 6oz was third.

Anston WMC fished their final match of the season at the Wetlands venue where Martin White enjoyed a red letter day on peg 19 fishing worm and caster for 106lb7oz.

Adam Hale on peg 12 employed the pellet feeder for a weight of 42lb 10oz and Ray Short on peg 30 took 40lb 4oz.

Stanley Street SSC ventured to KJS fishery where they tackled pond five (snake), with Steve Pogson taking the honours with 42lb 14oz taken on maggot off peg 23.

He squeezed Shaun Storey into second on peg 21 weighing 34lb 9oz tempted on meat.

Pete Scott was third on peg 29 weighing 24lb 6oz.

In the junior section Ben Storey took 7lb 13oz ahead of Craig Jackson who netted 3lb 12oz.

Station AC of Shireoaks fished at Mill Dam at Girton on the old lake with Tom Hunt taking 61lb 4oz pole fishing pellet.

Mick Swift was second with 51lb8oz and Phil Wright claimed third weighing 50lb 4oz on the feeder.

Greyhound AC fished their latest contest on the River Trent at East Stoke, with Alan Sargeson claiming victory on peg 2 weighing two barbell for 9lb8oz.

Cliff Brailsford was runner-up on peg 7 with 6lb 2oz and Pierce Stringfellow third netting 5lb 12oz.

AT Lakeside fishery the match lake has been responding to pole fished worm and caster in match nets of over 70lb, with pole and luncheon meat also scoring for mixed bags approaching 80lb.

On the carp lake Graham Walker enjoyed a fantastic session landing 24 specimens to 27lb 11oz from peg 5 using his hair rigged trigger ice boilies.

Over on the trout lake Ian Thomson cast his cats whisker to account for 14 fish to 8lb.

At Riverside near Bawtry Keith Noble triumphed in Tuesday’s match, pole fishing pellet for a net of 36lb 12oz off peg 38.

Wednesday’s event was won by B. Robinson poling meat on peg 20 for 48lb 9oz, with Saturday’s match seeing Keith Noble win again this time on peg 20 with 44lb 14.

At Lodge Farm Tuesday’s open on the long island saw Craig Crosby claim a win pole fishing pellet on peg 86 for 67lb 2oz with Reg Turner winning Wednesday’s over 50s match on the field pond, weighing 104lb 6oz tempted on pole and pellet on peg 30.

The Thursday event on the signal pond was won by Andy Favill pole fishing meat for 91lb 10oz from peg 11.
