Dinnington find form to thrash Guisborough XV

The first half was tight, mainly due to Dinnington not taking their chances.

But in the second half, the home side asserted their dominance to run in six unanswered tries.

Dinnington regained their own kick off to apply early pressure and its reward came in the second minute when Ryan Donnelly touched down and Jonny West converted his first of six.

But the Lodge Lane men let Guisborough reply almost immediately, cutting through the backs for an unconverted try.

Just before the mid-point of the half, Dinnington went further ahead when a break by Chris Williams set up Awly Trueman for a try converted by West.

Fifteen minutes before the break poor tackling allowed the visitors to break through and a try under the posts cut Dinnington’s lead to two points.

Dinnington went straight on the attack from the whistle at the start of the second half and after were awarded a penalty try with less than 10 minutes played.

The hosts stole the ball as Guisborough rallied but then became a bit too eager as they came back on the attack wasting good field position.

However, after turning the ball over at a scrum, Trueman was sent away for his second try.

Play was slowly becoming one way and with a quarter of the game to play a break by James Marsden opened the way for Andrew Pickering to score in the corner.

Almost straight from the restart, Dinnington were back on the attack and this time Chris Williams ran in from 20 yards out, breaking several tackles, after Garry Woodcock had made a break.

It was a case of how many would Dinnington score as Guisborough, who had conceded 73 points the previous week at Driffield, were forced onto almost constant defence.

Again, as in the first half, had Dinnington made the most of their chances that might well have matched that total but they only managed to score twice more.

Ollie Rodgers scored with 10 minutes to go and Michael Leitch rounded off the scoring with a try a minute from time.

Dinnington’s last home victory was followed by a week off and a defeat.

This time there is no rest week so they will be hoping to take the confidence from this game all the way to Morpeth tomorrow looking for more than a losing bonus point.
