Worksop are beaten in season opener at Blidworth
Worksop Cricket Club suffered a 22-run defeat at Blidworth CW in their Bassetlaw League Division One opener of the new season.
Winning the toss, Worksop put the home side into bat and they were all out for 151 in 39.4 overs.
But Worksop's run chase fell short as they were bowled out for 129 in 35.1 overs.
Blidworth's top order batsmen struggled as they wobbled at 53-5.
But 25 runs from Martin Overton and 20 by Kyle Kirkland steadied the ship to create a better target.
Overton and Joseph Wathall (14) produced a 40-run partnership to tick things along nicely.
Lee Edmondson was the pick of the Worksop bowlers with 3-15 from just 3.4 overs.
Tim Smith Jnr took 2-17 from eight overs and David Hancocks 2-34 from six.
In reply, the wickets of Smith Jnr (5) and Chris Taylor (25) were lost for 37 runs.
Isaac Bailey dug in with a top score of 26, Edmondson contributing 11 as they made an innings-best partnership of 39 between them.
But wickets fell regularly, Simon Wood the only other Worksop batsman to hit double figures. But once he fell at 15, it was all over and Blidworth had wrapped up the winners' 20 points with Worksop at least bagging eight bonus points on the day, five bowling and three batting.
Leigh Overton (3-14 from 6.1 overs) and Daniel Dallman (3-21 from eight overs) shared six of the Worksop wickets.
Worksop’s first home game this Saturday sees the visit of Retford (1pm), who were involved in a tie in their opener against Mansfield CC.
Worksop’s Oliver Mathews was last week selected to play for Nottinghamshire U15s.
