Taking on Roses, at home, Marshalls skipper Martyn Snell decided to bat first on a good surface – and the decision paid off.

The openers Mark Whitlam and Lynton Karkach put on a good opening stand before Karkach fell for a well-made 31.

Whitlam batted patiently and played a few good strokes as well, anchoring the innings with his 77 runs.

Haydn Green (37*) and Snell (13*) accelerated the innings nicely towards the end to drive Marshalls towards a highly competitive score of 187 from their 46 overs.

In response, Roses began slowly with their openers not really being able to time their shots against the Marshalls opening bowling pair of Rob Ridler and Leigh Street.

Ridler picked up two wickets in his opening spell to put further dents in the Roses chase.

Abhishek Rampal came on at first change alongside Skipper Snell and both continued to frustrate the batsmen.

Rampal bowled a good spell of 13 overs with five maidens, only giving away 19 runs and picking up four wickets along the way.

Marshalls were good in the field and held on to most of their chances.

Roses could not keep up with the run rate and ended up on 132 for 6 from their 46 overs, giving Marshalls a winning draw.
