Wickets tumble as Nottinghamshire extend lead against Sussex

Eight wickets fell during the afternoon session at Trent Bridge where Nottinghamshire and Sussex are struggling for supremacy on the second day of their LV= County Championship match.

The visitors’ lost their final three wickets during the early part of the session, two of them to Jake Ball, who returned career best figures of six for 49.

His fifth victim was Craig Cachopa for 54, shortly after he’d brought up his half century from 80 deliveries, having hit eight fours and a six and he then removed Matt Hobden to bowl Sussex out for 189.

Batting for a second time, with an advantage of 66, the home side were grateful for an opening partnership of 28 between Steven Mullaney and Brendan Taylor before collapsing to 48 for four, with Steve Magoffin and Ollie Robinson sharing the wickets.

Riki Wessels counter-attacked with 26 before hoisting Chris Jordan down to third man where Luke Wright took a well-judged catch, leaving the hosts on 94 for five at tea, a lead of 160.
