After Nottinghamshire resumed this morning on 125 for six, they lost their last four wickets for another 27 runs in 15 overs.

Dan Christian and Brett Hutton both edged Rikki Clarke to Tim Ambrose before Jeetan Patel rounded off the innings with two wickets in five balls, Matthew Carter, caught at short leg, and Jake Ball, whose stumping was Ambrose’s sixth dismissal of the innings.

Patel ended with three for nine, Clarke, the pick of the attack, three for 24 and Boyd Rankin three for 42.

Nottinghamshire’s bowlers needed to strike back quickly and they did. Ball removed openers Varun Chopra and Andy Umeed in his first 18 balls thanks to smart slip-catches by Hutton and Steven Mullaney.

Then the paceman struck a huge blow in the last over before lunch when Ian Bell edged to Mullaney at second slip to leave the bowler with 5.1-1-12-3.
