Welcome win for Wheatley

There was a welcome victory for North Wheatley with Leverton when they entertained Harthill on Saturday in the Bassetlaw Cricket League Championship Division.

Batting first, they posted 227 for seven thanks mainly to a fine innings of 88 by Richard Robinson and an unbeaten 41 from Aaron Wood, and they then bowled Harthill out for 196 with Dave Wilcox taking 5 for 40 and Callum Harrison 4 for 55 to win by 31 runs.

In Division One Everton kept up with the leaders after a three for wicket win away to Papplewick and Linby II.

The hosts scored 192 for eight with Mark Anthony taking 4 for 59 and Everton reached their winning target thanks to useful contributions from Tom Mills, John Waghorne, Richard Chambers and Anthony.

In Division Three Lea Park suffered a surprise defeat at Welbeck III.

Andrew Dewick and Andy Whiteley both scored 35 in the visitors’ total of 204 for 9, but Lea could not stop Welbeck passing that total with five wickets to spare.

Rose Leisure had the best result of all the local teams in Division Four when they eased to an eight for wicket victory at home to Blidworth II.

At Middlefield Lane Marshalls scored a formidable 244 for 8 against local rivals North Wheatley with Leverton 2nds with Lynton Karkash scoring 67 and Jack Senescall 40, but Martin Pring (41) and Doug Phin (33) dug in to help Wheatley finish on 120 for six and so claim a losing draw.

It was a close match at Everton 2nds when they entertained Worksop, the visitors scoring 205 for 8 and the hosts hanging on at the end on 188 for 9 (Steve Johnson 58 and Richard Lee 33) to get a losing draw.

Division Five leaders Misterton also had to be content with a losing draw when they entertained Papplewick and Linby III, the visitors scoring 118 for 8 and Misterton replying with 165 for 7.

There was good news in Division Six when Wiseton managed only their third win of the season so far by just four runs at Blyth.

They scored 140 with Jason Newstead top for scoring on 45 and the hosts came very close on 136, Sam Armistead returning figures of 5 for 22 and Tom Barker 3 for 12.
