Wath move above Aston

Wath batted first and recorded a score of 195 for 8, the majority coming through their first three batsmen; Derek Mitchell with 42, James Barnard with 30 and skipper Rob Barlow, who top scored with 58.

Josh Coulson took 4 for 60 and Uzman Azeem 3 for 33.

Aston’s innings featured a 90-run partnership between Amir Riaz (40) and Azeem who reached 54 before he became the fourth wicket to fall.

This enabled the innings reach 160 for 4, with 36 runs needed.

A wicket fell at this stage, followed by a two run outs and Aston had to hang on at 182 for 9, to claim two points for their efforts.

The second string sides also met at Green Lane, with Aston Hall B batting first against Wath B.

Tim Shaw opened with 45 and youngster Will Scott hit an impressive 54 to enable a final total of 191 all out.

Shawn Dyson took 3for 46, Shawn Hopkins 3 for 65 and Jordon Shutt 4 for 47.

Wath chased their victory with vigour.

Openers Matthew Hays (30) and Andy Bell (48) added 91 for the first wicket and Shaun Dyson (45) took them within reach of the Aston total.

Wath reached their target with four wickets and six overs to spare.

Nigel Walker took 4 for 45 for Aston.

Maltby kept in touch with the leaders of Division Three after an overwhelming victory over pointless Bradfield B at the Sands.

Maltby batted first and thanks to 56 from opener Tom Groom, 39 not out from David Clayton and 46 from Kevin Green they hoisted a total of 220 for 8.

Bradfield’s innings was a steady procession as they were bowled out for 29 in 22 overs.

Liam Woodward took 3 for 12, Gary Mills 3 for eight and Phillip Fletcher 4 for 1.

In Division Four Maltby B were convincing winners over Thorncliffe B

Maltby amassed 190 for 9, Matthew Richardson top scoring with 51

Thorncliffe were shot out for 60 in reply, Jordan Beighton (4 for 17) and Peter Brewster (4 for 17) doing the damage.
