The visitors have reduced Nottinghamshire to 100 for seven at lunch, with the home side holding a lead of just 64.

Only 42 runs were scored in the two hour session, with Somerset’s seam attack bossing things from the start.

Jim Allenby, who removed Michael Lumb on the third evening, set the ball rolling by adding two further scalps to his collection. Brendan Taylor had made 28 before falling lbw to a delivery that kept a touch low and Riki Wessels faield to get off the mark before edging to Marcus Trescothick at slip.

Jake Libby, after his first innings score of 90, battled his way to 44 before chopping Craig Overton onto his stumps.

Lewis Gregory, who had failed to score in Somerset’s innings, picked up his first wickets in the match as he accounted for both Chris Read and Luke Fletcher in the same over.

Read was especially unfortunate; having pulled the ball away for six he trod back onto his own stumps. Four deliveries later Fletcher’s off stick was spectacularly uprooted.
