Rain thwarts local sides

RAIN thwarted both Retford and Ordsall Bridon in their Bassetlaw Cricket League Championship matches on Saturday.

Ordsall Bridon were at Anston, were they took 10 points from a rain affected draw.

Anston made a huge 335 for 3 and Ordsall had reached 187 for 5 when rain ended the match.

Rob McLeod hit 48, Darren Spooner 41 and Marc Brewer was unbeaten on 55.

At Fourth Avenue, Retford brought home seven points from their rain affected draw.

Thoresby Colliery set the total of 289 for 4, Nyeem Ahmed accounting for 130 of those runs in an unbeaten knock.

Retford then lost six wickets on their way to 46 runs as rain halted play.

North Wheatley with Leverton did manage to take the full 20 points from their match against Notts and Arnold Amateur.

The hosts at South Wheatley made 142 before they were dismissed, Richard Robinson hitting 33 and Liam Somers 31 runs.

They completyed a thrilling win as Amateur fell 13 runs shy, Dave Willcock taking 4 for 37.

In Division One Everton were well beaten by Whitwell, with a nine wicket margin of victory.

Everton were all out for 96, despite Daniel Leach’s knock of 32, and Whitwell reached the total with the loss of just one wicket, giving Everton no points for their efforts.

Ordsall Bridon II were victorious at home to Anston II, dismissing their visitors for 141 and making 144 for 6.

With the ball, Matt Makings took 4 for 42, Alec McLeod took 3 for 22 and Luke Tong 3 for 35.

Batting, Jim Henstock scored 41 and Jon Tomlinson added 38.

Retford II also picked up a win, in Division Three, when they beat Clay Cross Works by seven wickets.

A. Jaideg took 5 for 45 for Retford and John Mattioli hit 56 runs.

Everton II, in Division Four, were defeated by Whitwell II by 55 runs.

In the same division Bawtry beat Woodsetts by five wickets, Grant Fleming scoring 53.

At Marsh Lane in Division Five, Misterton lost to North Wheatley II by eight wickets, and in Six, Bawtry II took 20 points from their four wicket victory over Woodsetts II.

This weekend, Retford are scheduled to host Farnsfield, Ordsall Bridon are at home to West Indian Cavaliers II and North Wheatley with Leverton travel to Kiveton Park.
