Notts Premier League round-up: Kimberley Insitute stay top after six wicket win over Welbeck

Kimberley Institute remains on top of the Premier League after completing a six wicket win at Welbeck.

The hosts opted to set a target, and with Simon Widdup and Andrew Parkin-Coates putting on 86 for the second wicket, looked set for a challenging total. Parkin-Coates fell for 38 and wickets fell regularly thereafter.

Widdup was sixth out having made 76 as Welbeck were all out in the final over for 181, George Bacon taking 5 for 46, backed up by Alex King’s 4 for 38. After the early loss of Alex Aldred, Tom Rowe added 70 with Shaun Levy for the second wicket to set the platform.

Levy fell for 53, but with Dominic Brown finishing on 50 not out, Richard Stroh’s 3 for 58 proved not enough.

Plumtree stay second, but slip a further three points back after they could only secure the better of a drawn game at Attenborough.

After being asked to bat, Plumtree’s Storey brothers took the game by the scruff of the neck, adding 188 for the second wicket.

Ben fell first for 84, but Sam kept going, scoring 154 from 158 balls to lead the total to 324 for 7.

Andrew Simkiss grabbed 3 for 87 as Attenborough tried to stem the tide. Matt Milnes (3 for 35) and Nathan Rimmington (3 for 65) made early inroads to the Attenborough reply.

Only Gurpej Landa’s 39 standing in the way, as the Squirrels set out to avoid the defeat.

A breezy 47 not out from Tom Murray put a late gloss on the final total of 168 for 8.

West Indian Cavaliers sit 19 points back in third after they completed a 6 wicket win over Cuckney at Birchover Park.

On winning the toss, Cavs invited their guests to bat first, and unleashed their twin destroyers, Corey Collymore and Kafeel Shafique.

Ian Parkin’s 40 the only score of note as Shafique (4 for 76) and Collymore (3 for 38) rooted out the top order.

Cuckney closing 184 all out with four overs unused.

At 37 for 3 the Cavs reply was looking in a spot of trouble, but a stand of 113 between Usman Afzaal (40) and Adeel Shafique righted things.

Shafique going on to an unbeaten 79 as victory was secured with 3.2 overs to spare.

Caythorpe moved back into fourth place after their five wicket win at Farnsfield. The hosts opted to have first dig, setting a total of 225 for 8.

Matthew Sisson made 30 in an opening stand of 57 with Andrew Bell, who then added 70 for the 2nd wicket with Callum McKenzie (34).

Bell went on to make 83 but struggled for support as Hasnain Nasir completed a haul of 4 for 61.

Caythorpe made a steady reply, built around a 100 run fourth wicket stand between Josh Mierkalns (50) and Martyn Dobson.

The opener batting through the innings to finish 102 not out as Caythorpe crossed the line with eight balls to spare.

A couple of late wickets for Andrew Bell giving him 3 for 71 in a fine day personally.

Nottinghamshire Academy climbed to 6th in the table despite going down to a five wicket defeat at Radcliffe-on-Trent.

The home side had their visitors bat first, reducing them to 57 for 4 as only Jake Libby (30) of the top five was able to put up any resistance.

The lower order were able to flourish however, Simon Webster top scored with 43 and Tom Keast added 42 as the final total reached 233 for 9.

James Marshall’s 3 for 49 led the way as six bowlers shared the wickets.

Radcliffe’s reply was built on three solid partnerships of more than 60 runs.

Ross Carnelley (30) added 66 for the second wicket with Ben Carr, who then put on 67 with Rob Sutton (44) before he fell for 65.

David Lucas (38) added 67 with Jake Fish in a fifth wicket stand that took Radcliffe to the doorstep of a victory that was clinched with nine balls to spare.

Clifton Village secured the better of a draw with Ordsall Bridon after a solid batting display saw them total 262 for 6.

The opening stand was worth 77 when Richard Harris (35) retired not out.

Scott McNeill (33) later added 59 for the second wicket with Martin Weightman, who would go on to buttress the innings, making 67.

After losing a couple of early wickets, a 56 run stand between Liam Andrews (40) and James Marsh steadied things, while with Paul van den Heuvel and James Brice in partnership a win looked possible.

With the partnership worth 97, van den Heuvel fell for 58 and those hopes of a win faded. Brice closed on 45 not out as Bridon made 227 for 6 to claim a draw.
