A point apiece means the Outlaws go to the top of the North Group, level with Northants, but with a superior run rate. They have however played a game more than the Steelbacks.

Leicestershire stay bottom, and retain only a mathematical chance of qualifying for the quarter-finals.

Notts director cricket Mick Newell sad: “We think 16 points is where we need to get to in order to secure a quarter-final, so one more win needed. We can’t get too frustrated about not playing, given the weather this season, the only danger is we got too many days without a game or high quality practice, so hopefully we’ll get the chance to prepare properly for Yorkshire on Frioday.

“The break has come at a good time though, because we have a heavy couple of weeks coming up and some important matches.

“It’s noticeable that everyone who wins the toss now bowls, and the considerable majority of games are being won by the team that bats second. What we don’t want is for the game to become too formulaic, and I think that’s a danger. All our wins have come from batting second, and I’d like to see if we can win batting first – but we’re not going to win the toss and bat.

“It may be something that needs to be looked at at the end of the season.”
