Notts fight hard against Yorkshire at Trent Bridge

Nottinghamshire fought hard on the final morning of their LV= County Championship match against Yorkshire at Trent Bridge.

Beginning the day on 74 for three, they resisted the reigning Champions to reach lunch on 156 for five, an overall advantage of 143.

Samit Patel, short of runs so far this season, survived a confident lbw shout from the first ball he faced but then reeled off a succession of straight and extra cover drives to reach an unbeaten 36 at the interval, with Riki Wessels on 8 not out.

Will Gidman, who had batted out of position as nightwatchman on the third evening, lasted for a further 45 minutes before being drawn into nicking Steven Patterson behind.

The other wicket to fall was that of James Taylor, who had battled his way to 35 before playing a shot totally out of character in lifting Will Rhodes into the hands of substitute fielder Moin Ashraf, down at long leg.
