Nottinghamshire without Vernon Plhilander against Sussex following South Africa recall

Nottinghamshire will be without Vernon Philander for next week’s LV= County Championship match against Sussex after the fast-bowler was recalled early by Cricket South Africa.

The 29-year-old will depart this weekend having taken 16 wickets at an average of 24 during his five first-class matches in the Nottinghamshire side, also averaging 25 with the bat. The Club’s replacement, Australian paceman Ben Hilfenhaus, is due to arrive on Tuesday.

“When you sign an international overseas player, you always know there’s a chance that they could be recalled by their country,” said Newell.

“It’s come right towards the end of his spell with us, albeit we will miss out on him for the game against Sussex, so we’ll need our domestic bowlers to step up and fill the void.”
