Hide AdOther than the weather, the big winners on the second weekend of the NCB Premier League were the NCB Academy who recorded their first win of the campaign and Caythorpe who moved to the top of the table.
At Caythorpe, home skipper James Hemmings opted to bat first when the visiting Attenborough captain called incorrectly. A pair of half century stands centred on Martyn Dobson’s 71 saw the hosts to 143 for two as James Oldham and Steve Allcoat both contributed 35 to their respective stands of 66 and 77. Gurpej Landa’s three wicket burst slowed the innings, before Dominic Harvey mopped up the tail to finish with figures of four for 42. Andrew Staszkiewicz marshalled the tail, hitting 35 at better than a run a ball to steer his side to maximum batting points.
Attenborough’s reply never really got going as Mat Dowman’s five for 48 reduced them to 94 for six.

The game petered out into a draw with Caythorpe taking the lions share of the points.
At Birchover Park, the visitors were Ordsall Bridon, who, on winning the toss asked their hosts to bat first. Bilal Shafayat made 36 and Usman Afzaal 56, but the star was Akhil Patel who struck the highest score of the young season, reaching 124, as the Cavaliers made 249 for eight from their 50 overs.
