A draw would seem to be the likeliest outcome at Trent Bridge, where Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire have traded blows in a thrilling match in the Specsavers County Championship.

The visitors, set to score 320, from a minimum of 53 overs, have reached tea on 64 for one, after losing Adam Lyth for four.

In the early part of the afternoon the home side plundered quick runs, before being dismissed for 348 in their second innings. Chris Read was last out, caught on the deep square leg fence by Adil Rashid, to end a high-quality innings on 101.

Read had reached his 25th first class century from 178 deliveries, with 14 fours and three sixes before falling to Steven Patterson, who finished with four for 57, Jack Brooks claimed three for 69.

The other Nottinghamshire wicket to fall after lunch was that of Jackson Bird, who made 23, his highest contribution for his new county, before being pinned lbw by Patterson.

When Yorkshire began their chase they lost Lyth, caught down the leg side by Read, off Jake Ball, for four but Alex Lees and Gary Ballance have subdued the Nottinghamshire charge and with only 35 overs remaining, an early handshake would seem probable.
