Mick Newell delighted as Notts Outlaws bounce back with T20 win at Worcestershire Rapids

Notts Outlaws director of cricket Mick Newell says he is delighted with the way his side bounced back from Friday’s night defeat against Leicestershire.

The outlaws beat Worcestershire by 11 runs following a whirlwind 36 not out in 16 balls by Darren Sammy and a key wicket for Samit Patel which tipped the balance at New Road.

Sammy smashed four sixes straight down the ground in turning an average score into a more challenging 169 for five and Patel, having made 30 with the bat, dismissed Moeen Ali for 36 in a match-defining spell of three for 17.

Newell said: “It’s T20 isn’t it. You’re not going to win every game. I keep saying that you can’t get too high when you win and you can’t get too low when you lose.

“It think it was a pretty decent performance by us in all aspects. It looked like we were under control.

“It was absolutely crucial to get Moeen out because he’s a guy who is capable of batting all the way through and making 70 or 80.

“The group we are in is good strong competition. You can’t take anything for granted. We have been looking for a run of consistency which at the moment we are not finding. Hopefully this win can turn that a little bit better in our favour.”
