Notts have this week moved to outdoor training inside a giant ten following weeks of gruelling build-up work indoors.

And Moores believes it presents new and more realistic training conditions as the new season draws near.

“The lads are excited and it's a real indicator that the season is getting near,” he said.

“The players get to practice on a realistic surface. We do some brilliant work indoors, but the grass is slower, the ball will move more and it is the closest thing we can get to when we play some competitive friendlies.

“The ball will seam around and it gives us a great chance to learn how to get through that new ball spell and build an innings.

“Moving outdoors gives a great buzz to the players. Getting outside gives us great practice and the lads are excited.”

Moores believes the players are in a good place after turning the period under tight lockdown restrictions into a positive.

“There has been lots of one-to-one coaching which is great as you get specific work for that one player,” he added.

“They worked on what they wanted to work on to improve and it allowed the players to target key areas of their game. It was a real positive.

“Now is the time to put it together a bit more. We play as a team and we have to find ways of building that team.”

He is also happy with the fitness levels on show ahead of the busy season.

Moores added: “We gave the players the right amount of space to do their own work. The players know they have to be fit and strong because we play a long tough season and there is a lot of cricket to get through.

“We always want players to be independent. They had to train themselves during lockdown. “Our lads are fit and have worked hard this winter.

“Four day cricket is a massive increase in volume and we will increase the intensity of spells for the bowlers in the coming week so they are bowling fit and ready.”
